Cuz they do.

Before you read any further, I feel it pertinent to warn you.  This may sting a little.  I’m in no way publishing this post to upset, hurt, offend, or embarrass anyone.  However, this shit needs to be said.

I swear ta gawd if I hear one more intelligent, successful, beautiful [black] woman talk about a ‘spark’ I’mma die!  I swear ta gawd!  Where did this spark shit come from?  Disney?  Cinderella and Snow White and nem done lied to yall and got you thinking life is really a Disney movie?

Sparks are superficial!  How many times do I have to re-iterate this to get it through people’s heads???  SPARKS ARE SUPERFICIAL!!!!  Sparks do not equal love! At best, sparks might equal limerance (look it up!) if not just good old fashioned lust.  Either way, its an impulse, not a conscious decision, which is what true love is.  Oh?  Didn’t yall know…I do this for a living 😉

I am in no way shape or from claiming to be an expert on love and relationships, and I’m not saying that I’m immune to getting the game phucked up either- we’re all human no matter how much we know.  But one thing I do know is human behavior.  And this I know for certain: nowadays bitches got the game all fucked up!  People think love is some kind of overwhelming emotion that should come over you like a mighty rushing wind and dictate your actions and beliefs.  Now riddle me this, does that sound like fun?  Do you really wanna be that outta control?

Love is a conscious decision that you make.  You see something in the other person, some redeeming quality that you decide to want to nurture because you actually wanna bring out the best in that person.  You actually consider their needs and invest whatever it is that you have to offer into them in order to see them grow and be happy.  You don’t love people to get anything in return, but rather you love people to give of yourself.  Now there is a romantic type of love, but even then it’s not conditional.  What’s happening now is a perversion of romantic love; damn near a mental disorder.

This is not Love!!! Love actually brings stability.  It isn’t concerned with getting your superficial ass needs met, but rather giving the other person what they need.  Gasp!  Lord knows the thought of being completely selfless is hard for some of you heaux to grasp, but that’s another post for another day… But yeah, in order to make rational, conscious decisions, you have to base them on what? -knowledge.  How do we obtain knowledge in human interactions?  -observation, experience, reasoning, and modeling.  Modeling!!!!!  You have to give people a chance to show you who they are!  How is this possible if you waiting for sparks to fly???  You’re not focused on the other person, you’re trying to satisfy a primal urge to have sects and a superficial need in yourself to not be lonely…

Le sigh!  So much to say…so little blog space…

Light & Crispy Waffles

I’ve finally done it yall!  I figured out the secret to have crispy waffles that aren’t so dense.  I like waffles and all, but you know how they can get to be real doughy and chewy-like?  Yeah, I don’t like that part either.  So, this recipe is more akin to a Belgian waffle.  I’m going to continue to tweak it to add in different flavor combinations, but this is the basic recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c flour
  • 1/4 c cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 c buttermilk (you can also use regular milk)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

The order in which you add these ingredients is important here.

Firstly, mix the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a bowl.  It’s important that the cornstarch is evenly distributed in the dry mix.

In a separate bowl (I usually just use a measuring cup) mix the buttermilk, oil, and egg.  Combine the liquids with the dry ingredients.

Lastly, mix in the sugars and the vanilla extract and allow the batter to rest.  It’ll be somewhat thin and may seem runny if you’re used to using a box mix.  Cook them in your waffle iron according to your preferences (brownness, etc.)  and cool on a wire rack.  These freeze really well since they’re so light.

Enjoy!
