This week, we’re taking a pause in remembrance of Memorial Day. This marks the unofficial start of summer and also: cookout season! See, I’m from the south, and we don’t say barbecue unless we are referring to a pulled or chopped pork sandwich situation. Unfortunately here on the East coast we’re due for a stormy, rainy weekend 😕 Y’all know otherwise, I would surely be planning a petite function. So we decided to leave y’all with a little bit of a wet rub situation for all your grilling needs.

Wet BBQ Rub
In the spirit of summer, here’s a wet BBQ rub you can use on your ribs or chicken, probably most anything else you wanna throw on the grill.
Ingredients
- 1/3 c smoked paprika
- 1/4 c dry mustard
- 3 tbsp onion powder
- 3 tbsp garlic powder
- 1/2 c dark brown sugar
- 2 tbsp crushed hot pepper flakes
- 2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp crown apple whiskey (or plain whiskey if you’d like)
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Mix all ingredients in a bowl adding the wet ingredients last and store in an airtight container if you have any left. I wouldn’t personally keep this for too long (no more than a few days) as opposed to like a dry rub. If it’s too thick then add more wet ingredients (personally, I like to add apple cider vinegar because I’m from NC and we love our vinegar).
You can adjust the cayenne to your desired heat level, I don’t really do a lot of heat but it added a nice after spice to the ribs I used this on when they were done. Keep this in mind depending on your sauce and flavor preferences.
